know what youre your talking about.
Doug Hodge has been lashing
out his own particular brand of poignant satire. Songs ranging
from the hilarious Woodie Guthrie-esque ‘ I think I’m
living next door to a Terrorist’ to the full belt heartbroken ‘This
Civil War’ - surveying the wreckage of a relationship. A
singer songwriter with a clutch of new songs full of yearning,
dripping with feeling and take no prisoner lyrics..
The Open Mic. opportunities
in Oxford are getting stronger and stronger. And probably the best
of them all is the Ex on Cowley Road. Every Tuesday night various
artistes have begun to come to the fore over the passing months.
Doug started sneaking down there twelve months ago now to try out
a new song and since then he’s become one of the favourite
faces:
“ I’ve
been writing songs all my life but - apart from the occasional
girlfriend late at night - I’d never sung them to anyone.
Then last year I finally started playing at various venues in
and around Oxford.. Each time I wrote a new song I’d go
down the Ex and sing it... Then rightback records asked me to
record them. We went into the Blue Moon Studios in Banbury for
just four days. This is what we came out with...” |
